High Flying: Pair Flies To Nashville With 50 Pounds Of Pot, DEA Says

DEA agents say they found 45 bags containing more than 50 pounds of marijuana inside the luggage of two people at Nashville International.

NASHVILLE, TN — Two people, three suitcases, 45 baggies and more than 50 pounds of pot were part of an apparent drug-trafficking plot foiled with the help of a K-9 officer at Nashville International Airport Tuesday, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Tyron Goins and Lakendra Kidd, both 29, are charged with one count each of felony drug possession with the intent to sell, deliver or manufacturer. The pair flew into BNA from Oakland, Calif. on a Southwest flight Tuesday. A K-9 officer alerted agents two suitcases contained drugs, according to an affidavit. Plainclothes officers staked out the baggage carousel and say Goins picked up the suitcases in question and then consented to a search, during which the agents found 31 vacuum sealed bags containing a total of 35.7 pounds of marijuana. Goins was arrested and when they checked his phone, they learned he was travelling with Kidd.

Surveillance footage allegedly shows Kidd abandoning her bag when the officers approached Goins and then getting in a cab. She was tracked to the Waffle House on Harding Place, where she was arrested. Agents allege her luggage contained 14 bags containing 16.4 pounds of marijuana.

According to an affidavit, Goins said he was being paid between $2,500 and $3,000 for flying with the drugs. Kidd said she did not pack her own bag, but refused to answer any further questions.
