Hot Take: Nashville Mayor Megan Barry Compares Voting Lines to Queuing for Our Famous Hen

Megan Barry tells NewsChannel 5 that waiting to vote is like waiting for hot chicken.

NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Nashville Mayor Megan Barry was out casting her vote along with millions of other Americans this morning, encouraging her fellow Nashvillians to stick with it despite the expected long lines.

To make her point, she compared queuing to vote to something even more important to the people of Music City than exercising their fundamental rights as Americans: ensuring their regular ration of the city's signature dish.

Speaking to NewsChannel 5's Dan Kennedy, the mayor said waiting in line to vote is just like lining up to get hot chicken, with at least one important exception.

Depending on his or her preference and tonight's winner, the election and hot chicken could also have the same result: heartburn.

While none of the city's hot-chicken joints are offering free bird for voters, Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts for "I Voted" stickers. See that and some other freebies here.
