Hydrochloric Acid Spill Evacuates Hume-Fogg

A chemistry lab hydrochloric acid spill prompted the evacuation of Hume-Fogg Academic High School Tuesday.

NASHVILLE, TN — Two gallons of highly corrosive hydrochloric acid spilled in a fourth-floor chemistry lab at Hume-Fogg Academic High School in downtown Nashville Tuesday, leading to the evacuation of the school.

The school's 900 students were sent across Broadway to First Baptist Church starting around 8 a.m. as a Nashville Fire Department's hazardous materials team cleared the scene. No one was hurt and no ill effects reported. Students returned to the school around 9:45 a.m. following an air quality test by first responders.
