Kay Lokey Appointed Nashville Deputy Police Chief

Chief Steve Anderson today announced the appointment of Midtown Hills Precinct Commander Kay Lokey to Deputy Chief effective July 1.

Lokey, 53, a 23-year MNPD veteran, will assume command of the Administrative Services Bureau, which consists of the Crime Laboratory & Crime Scene Investigations, Training Division, Human Resources Division (including recruitment), Behavioral Health Services, Information/Technology Division, and the Records Division.

Lokey graduated from the MNPD Academy in April 1997 and worked as a patrol officer in South Nashville. She was promoted to sergeant in August 2004 and was assigned to the Training Academy before being promoted to lieutenant over recruitment operations in October 2006. Lokey was promoted to captain over the Domestic Violence Division in January 2011, where she served until her appointment as the first commander of the Midtown Hills Precinct in July 2014.

Lokey holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University and a Master’s Degree from Cumberland University. She is the department’s first female deputy chief since 2013, when Deputy Chief Louise Kelton retired to become Middle Tennessee’s United States Marshal.

Deputy Chief Damian Huggins, who presently heads the Administrative Services Bureau, will transition to the Support Services Bureau effective July 1, succeeding retiring Deputy Chief Brian Johnson. The Support Services Bureau includes the Special Operations Division (Traffic Section, Aviation Unit, Canine Unit, SWAT, Mounted Unit, School Crossing Guards, Hazardous Devices Unit, and the Urban Search & Rescue Unit), the Custom Services Division (School Resource Officers, Special Events, Secondary Employment, MDHA Task Force, and the Surveillance/Technical Support Unit), the Warrants Division, the Facilities Management Division, and the Safety & Inspections Division.

Chief Anderson will appoint a new Commander over the Midtown Hills Precinct in the coming days.
