Loose Ship Clinks Slip: Barge Bashes Boat Dock, Nashville Fire Boat Floats Away

A runaway barge ran into a floating dock early Wednesday, sending a Nashville Fire Department boat downstream.

NASHVILLE, TN — A mysterious accident loosed the Nashville Fire Department's boat Wednesday, sending it down the Cumberland.

A loose barge hit the floating dock on the Cumberland River near the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, pushing it 100 yards downstream, though it somehow remained connected. The impact, however, dislodged the Nashville Fire Department's boat, which also floated downstream where it was spotted by another boater, who alerted NFD and then helped haul the boat back into position. A preliminary inspection by the fire department showed minimal damage, though a more thorough examination was planned for the daylight hours Wednesday.
