The deceased is identified as Jazmin Swain, 28, of Louisville, Kentucky. Her brother, Tristian Swain, 21, also of Louisville, is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The investigation shows that the Swains were passengers in a Ford Fusion being driven by Dakota Chappell, 22, of Louisville. The car was traveling west on I-40 when, for a reason yet to be determined, it left the roadway and crashed into the center concrete dividing wall. The Fusion came to rest in the middle of the interstate and was disabled. Jazmin and Tristian Swain had gotten out of the Fusion when a Pontiac Bonneville, being driven by James Robinson, 43, of Madison, collided with the Fusion and the Swain siblings.

Robinson said he was unable to avoid the crash. Robinson and his passenger were uninjured. The three other occupants of the Fusion were not critically hurt. Neither of the drivers showed any indication of impairment.
