Man Charged With Criminal Homicide For Overnight Fatal Shooting Near Downtown Nashville

Rojelio Rivera, 38, allegedly shot Dean Kwatelai-Quartey, 43, in a parking lot at 300 McCann St.

Homicide Unit detectives this morning charged Rojelio Rivera, 38, with criminal homicide for Thursday night’s fatal shooting of Dean Kwatelai-Quartey, 43, in a parking lot at 300 McCann Street just south of downtown.

The investigation, being led by Detective Trevor VonDohlen, shows that Rivera and Kwatelai-Quartey were at the intersection of 3rd Avenue South & McCann Street when Rivera shot the victim for no known reason. Kwatelai-Quartey walked to the parking lot to seek help. Rivera approached and shot him again through a fence in the parking lot before fleeing on foot eastbound on McCann Street. Kwatelai-Quartey died at a hospital.

Officers and detectives flooded the area in search of the gunman. Detective Russ Thompson located Rivera behind a building at the intersection of McCann Street and 2nd Avenue South. Rivera was carrying a .45 caliber pistol.

Rivera has felony convictions from other jurisdictions and was also charged this morning with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon.
