The investigation shows that Campbell came into the area to buy marijuana. It appears that Baxter pulled a gun and tried to rob Campbell in a breezeway, resulting in shots being fired. Campbell was hit in the chest and died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Baxter was found by officers suffering from a leg wound in the stairwell of another housing unit. He was transported to Vanderbilt and is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
Detectives are investigating whether Campbell shot Baxter. Baxter was unable to be interviewed Wednesday due to his medical condition. He will be arrested upon his discharge from the hospital.
