Middle Tennessee Shoney's Restaurants Hit With Data Breach

NASHVILLE, TN — Credit card information was stolen from more than three dozen Shoney's locations nationwide, according to management company Best American Hospitality Corporation. BAHC hired a cybersecurity firm which determined malware was installed remotely on point of sale equipment that processed payment cards. The malware searched for data such as cardholder name, card number, expiration date, and internal verification code stored on the magnetic stripe of a payment card.

Some locations were affected as early as December 27, 2016 and the malware was contained March 6, 2017. BAHC said it is working with the payment card networks so that the banks that issue payment cards can be made aware and initiate heightened monitoring on the affected cards.
