Nashville To Observe Parks And Recreation Month

A variety of activities both virtual and on the ground that lend themselves to social distancing are planned for July.

Metro Parks and Recreation announced today 31 events and activities to celebrate July as Parks and Recreation Month, a national month that emphasizes the vital importance of parks
and recreation for quality of life, and the health and well-being of communities across the country.

This year, the month emphasizes the selfless, passionate and essential work of park and recreation professionals who are providing services that are critical to a healthy city. A variety of activities both virtual and on the ground that lend themselves to social distancing are planned for residents are listed below in the month-long calendar of Metro Parks: Things to Do in July!

“We value the essential role our employees play in the health and well-being of this community - and this month helps us showcase our efforts to provide all our residents with ample access to green spaces, recreational opportunities, clean air, sports and water facilities,” said Metro Parks Director Monique Horton Odom.

July is Parks and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Metro Parks encourages the public to learn more about our local parks, and parks and recreation professionals and the essential services they provide by visiting the department online on Facebook, Twitter or on their website. 4. Don’t miss the Music City Fourth of July Fireworks (virtual)! Check your local listings for time.

5. Take the entire family to the city’s first wave-action pool Wave Country. The parking is free!

6. Sit on the porch at the Warner Park Nature Center and enjoy the hummingbirds

7. Check out some of our community center’s great kid-friendly projects on our YouTube channel and Facebook page

8. Listen to some great music during the Brown Bag Lunch Concerts at the Centennial Park Event Center

9. Visit the Bellevue Park Farmers Market

10. Play a round of golf! We have some of the best golf courses in Middle Tennessee.

11. Handmade Nashville Summer Arts & Crafts Show at Bellevue Park

12. Take a walk or ride a bike on one of our many Greenways. We have 100 miles for you to enjoy!

13. Check out some of the canoe and kayak programs offered by our Outdoor Recreation Division

14. Visit the 12th South Farmers Market at Sevier Park

15. It’s a great day for fishing at one of the many lakes and ponds inside our parks

16. Play a round of disc golf at three designated disc golf courses
