Cox, who lived at the apartment complex, was walking behind her 19-year-old daughter on Apache Trail at 5:20 a.m. when she was struck by an eastbound vehicle sedan, possibly a Nissan with damage to the front passenger side including a missing headlight and fog light. Cox died at the scene. She and her daughter, who was not injured, were walking to the Shell, 197 Haywood Lane, where both worked.

Additionally, both women were walking on the side of the roadway facing toward traffic, as is required by Metro ordinance, since there is no sidewalk.
