Always one to point out the pretentions of the upper classes, Saki is also famous for usually giving us a wry twist to the endings of his stories. The American writer O. Henry is known for similar handling of climaxes and denouements, often exciting a gasp from the reader. For more Saki stories here on Just Listen, listen to “The Schartz-Metterklume Method” and “The Open Window,” an all-time classic ghost story included in any comprehensive ghost story anthology.
