Social-media threats of a shooting resulted in widespread absences at the state's largest high school.

NASHVILLE, TN — There is extra security Friday at the state's largest high school.

Police and Metro Schools officials are continuing to investigate a threat made against McGavock High School that has prompted widespread absences at the Donelson school. Extra police patrols will continue throughout the school day Friday, though Metro Police and school security have determined the threat is not credible.

Word of the threat spread through social media late Thursday and into Friday morning, prompting fear from parents and students, with one parent telling Fox 17 that her said son 75 percent of his classmates had stayed home.
