The investigation to this point shows that Abbott was walking with her husband from their home to a nearby restaurant across Nolensville Pike. They were crossing the street from east to west when Mrs. Abbott was hit at 6:40 p.m. by a 2006 Pontiac G6 sedan being driven by Shannon Holt, 28, of Nashville. Holt told officers that he saw a person in the roadway as he crested a hill and braked in an attempt to avoid the collision. Abbott was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.

Officers are investigating whether speeding was a contributing factor. There is not a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Lords Chapel Drive.
