Pedestrian Killed Wednesday Night On I-40 Near Stewarts Ferry Pike

The pedestrian struck by a car and killed at 10 p.m. Wednesday on I-40 west just past the Stewarts Ferry Pike exit is identified as Jason L. Ferguson, 47, of Nashville.

Cory Deutsch, 35, of Clarksville, reported that he was driving his Toyota Corolla in the far right lane of the interstate when he came upon Ferguson who was standing on the right shoulder waving his arms. Deutsch said Ferguson jumped into his traffic lane and that he could not avoid hitting him. Ferguson died at the scene. Deutsch was treated for minor injuries.

It is not known why Ferguson was on the interstate. There were no abandoned or broken down vehicles near the crash.

Deutsch showed no indications of impairment. The medical examiner will conduct toxicology testing on Ferguson.
