School Bus Driver Indicted In 2016 Nashville Rollover Crash

A 29-year-old Chester County school bus driver is charged with 35 counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckles endangerment.

NASHVILLE, TN — A Chester County school bus driver faces 36 charges stemming from a November wreck on an Interstate 65 off-ramp that injured 35, two critically.

Christina Mathis, 29, is charged with 35 counts of aggravated assault and one count of felony reckless endangerment in the November 18, 2016, wreck. Investigators say that Mathis, who was driving a bus of Chester County High School Beta Club members, was driving too fast on the off ramp from Interstate 65 to Briley Parkway.

"As the result of going too fast, Mathis lost control of the bus. It traveled off the ramp to the left into gravel. Despite braking and turning back to the right, Mathis could not regain control. The bus struck a guardrail on the right side as it overturned before sliding to its final resting point," Metro Police said in a statement.

Mathis remains jailed on a $1.8 million bond.
