Fireworks Cause Scare at Hamilton Place Mall Near Chattanooga
Terrified shoppers reported shots were fired, but someone set off fireworks at Hamilton Place Mall near Chattanooga, according to police.
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Several shoppers reported a chaotic scene after fireworks were set off near the food court at a busy Chattanooga area mall Monday afternoon.
Thinking it was a shooting, dozens of shoppers fled the building or hunkered down inside the Hamilton Place Mall. However, according to police, someone set off fireworks inside the mall.
The incident happened shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to police. Hamilton Place Spokeswoman Kim Carson told News Channel 9 that the disturbance was caused by a group of juveniles who set off fireworks inside a store. However, she would not confirm which store was involved nor if the suspects were detained by police.
