Tad Cummins Trial Date Set

Ex-Maury County teacher Tad Cummins will go to trial in July on charges he abducted a former student.

NASHVILLE, TN — Tad Cummins, the ex-Maury County teacher accused of kidnapping his former student and going on the run for nearly six weeks, will go to trial in late July.

Cummins trial on charges of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activities and obstruction of justice will begin July 25 in Nashville. Cummins pleaded not guilty to the charges last month.

Cummins and the 15-year-old girl disappeared from Columbia March 13. He was arrested in a remote part of northern California April 20. The girl was safe and returned to her family. Cummins, 50, has remained jailed.

In addition to federal charges, Cummins is charged on the state level with kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor.
