Three Persons Charged In Conspiracy To Fraudulently Obtain Prescription Pain Medication

A three-month investigation by North Precinct undercover detectives with assistance from the regional Walgreens asset protection manager resulted in the arrests of three persons involved in a conspiracy to fraudulently obtain prescription pain medication.

After being contacted by a citizen regarding his wife’s medication being fraudulently obtained by another person at Walgreens’ Pharmacy, 3130 Clarksville Pike, detectives began the meticulous work of uncovering a plot allegedly involving pharmacy employee Dor Charika McKinney, 27, who is accused of providing the personal information of customers with prescriptions to her co-conspirators who would then use that information to purchase the victim’s medication before they could pick it up.

The illegal activity began shortly after McKinney was hired at the end of November. During an interview, she admitted her involvement in the conspiracy. Thirteen hundred prescription pills were diverted from patients prior to her arrest. McKinney is charged with eleven counts of conspiracy to commit identity theft and felony drug conspiracy.

Robert Toran, 21, and Cameron Welsch, 22, are also charged with identity theft and felony drug possession. Toran is being held in lieu of $90,000 bond. Welsch is free on $55,000 bond.

The investigation continues. Additional arrests are anticipated.
