WATCH: Former Nashville Predator Shea Weber's Emotional Return to Bridgestone Arena
The former Nashville Predators captain played his first game as a visiting player in Nashville.
NASHVILLE, TN — For the first time since the June 29 blockbuster trade that sent him to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for fellow superstar defenseman P.K. Subban, former Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber returned to Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday night. The five-time All-Star, three-time Norris Trophy finalist and Mark Messier Leadership Award winner was greeted by a raucous and emotional ovation from Nashville fans.
Weber, who was drafted by the Predators in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft held in Nashville, spent 11 seasons playing in Music City before the shocking trade in the summer of 2016. Weber served as captain for the Preds for six seasons from 2010-11 to 2015-16 and won Olympic gold medals playing for Canada in 2010 and 2014.
The Sicamous, B.C. native scored 166 goals and had 277 assists during his Predators tenure.

The gifted Russian is far less beloved among Nashville fans than Weber, having left the Predators to play in Russia's KHL after the 2007-08 season despite having a year left on his Nashville contract. He returned to Nashville for the end of the 2011-12 season, but was suspended due to a curfew violation in the team's second-round playoff series against the then-Phoenix Coyotes. He returned to the KHL after the playoffs, playing for CSKA Moscow for four seasons. He signed with Montreal in the summer of 2016.
Subban is on injured reserve for the Predators and was not able to play against his former team.
