Watch Replay: President Donald Trump's Nashville Rally

Trump spoke at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium Wednesday.

NASHVILLE, TN — President Donald Trump held a rally Wednesday evening in Nashville, following an appearance in Detroit earlier in the day.

In a city with a significant health care industry, he was expected to deliver extensive remarks on the Republican health care plan. Nashville is also seen as one of the leading battleground cities on charter schools; Trump was also expected to talk about school choice. The speech, however, was far more like his fiery campaign rhetoric than his more measured policy-heavy speech during his joint address of Congress.

Prior to the rally — which is a campaign, rather than White House-run event — Trump visited The Hermitage, where he will be joined by Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and as many as 100 Tennessee state legislators. Wednesday is the 250th anniversary of the birth of Andrew Jackson. Traditionally, the White House sends a wreath to be laid on Jackson's tomb on March 15. Trump laid the wreath himself.

The Nashville rally and an earlier event in Michigan were the president's first public appearances since Tuesday night's release of a portion of his 2005 tax returns, which showed that he made $150 million and paid $38 million in taxes, on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show." The White House confirmed the figures. Trump, despite numerous promises to do so during the campaign, has not released his tax returns. While he is under no legal obligation to do so, every major party candidate for president has done so for decades. Trump did not mention Maddow's report, though he did allude multiple times to "fake news" and the "bad media."
