A wild, eight-mile West Nashville ended when the driver ran into the woods near Old Hickory Boulevard.

NASHVILLE, TN — The suspect who led Metro Nashville police on a perilous eight-mile chase through most of West Nashville late Wednesday and into early Thursday is on the lam.

Police say the suspect swerved towards an officer, apparently in an effort to hit him, at 33rd Avenue North and Charlotte Pike near Sylvan Heights just before midnight and then sped away before officers could give chase. Metro Police were able to deploy spike strips at Old Hickory Boulevard and Charlotte Pike, three miles from Nashville West and some seven miles from the original incident. Even after hitting the spikes, the suspect was able to drive another mile before ditching the car and running into nearby woods.

Police chased the suspect on foot, but were unsuccessful in the pursuit and the suspect remains at large.
