• Off-duty Newport police officer charged with child neglect (wate.com) — Newport residents should know that a Newport Police Department patrol officer has been charged with child neglect after a two-year-old in his care was later found unharmed in a White Pine yard. Jefferson County authorities say the child appears to have been outside and away from the officer’s home for several hours before being located, and the officer has since posted bond.
