📰 News we're reading

• Public Notices Week of May 12, 2026 (mainstreetmediatn.com) — Several upcoming legal deadlines, estate notices, and foreclosure sales in Rutherford County could affect local property owners and heirs, so Smyrna-area residents may want to scan this list carefully. The Town of Smyrna is also seeking contractor quotations by May 27 for new gateway monument signs, and multiple public meetings in Murfreesboro and La Vergne are scheduled in the coming weeks.

• Multiple TN schools on lockdown after bomb threats. Franklin High School cleared (dnj.com) — Smyrna High School was among several Tennessee schools briefly locked down Monday after bomb threats that law enforcement later determined were not credible. Rutherford County Schools say Smyrna, La Vergne, and Holloway high schools were searched, cleared, and quickly returned to normal operations, as similar hoax threats disrupted classes in Franklin, Nashville, and Jackson the same day.

• Melissa Rae Lee (rutherfordsource.com) — Family, friends, and neighbors in Smyrna are invited to honor the life of Melissa Rae Lee, who passed away May 10 and will be remembered at services May 18–19 at All Saints Episcopal and St. Luke’s Catholic churches, with burial at Mapleview Cemetery. The longtime Alabama football fan and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother is remembered for her humor, hospitality, faith, and love of the outdoors.
