Election Day Selfies And Stories From Across Texas

Democracy and stickers are a beautiful combination.

Like a tree falling in a forest, if you don't tweet a photo of your "I Voted" sticker, did election day even happen? Hashtags like #voted, #electionight, and #midterm2018 have been overrun with selfies from Texas voters hitting the polls.

One voter who shared a selfie was Houston pastor Jezer Ureña who voted at Thomas Gray Elementary.

"This election cycle is historic for many reasons," Ureña told Patch over Twitter. "I voted for Beto because I feel the GOP doesn't represent an emerging America. Also, Ted Cruz has been instrumental in passing legislation that has hurt both the middle class and working class. There is a momentous values shift in America and it's being expressed in every corner of society."

2018 Election Results: Texas Heads To The Polls

In Collin County, writer Lesley Handel voted with relative ease at 2 p.m. Handel echoed Ureña's sentiments over the importance of this year's midterms.

"I think every election is important but this one hinges on so much for a great number of vulnerable people," Handel told Patch.

Rep. Beto O'Rourke, from El Paso, raised an impressive $69 million in his bid to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz, who raised $40 million, according to opensecrets.org. An O'Rourke win would get Democrats one step closer to stripping control away from Republicans who hold 51 seats.

This story will be updated with more selfies and stories throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening.
