2018 Election Results: Texas Heads To The Polls

Following record-breaking voting numbers, Texas poised to vote on key Senate, governor, and legislative races.

With more than 2.8 million votes already cast in Texas thanks to early voting, millions more will descend on voting booths around the state Tuesday as the nation anxiously waits to see if Sen. Ted Cruz will defeat Beto O’Rourke, a Democratic congressman from El Paso. A Democratic win would help the party close the gap on the Republicans’ 51 Senate seat majority.

Long lines have been reported at Austin's Zilker Elementary Tuesday morning. Some technical difficulties have also been reported at Houston's Madding Elementary School where some iPads weren't connecting to the internet.

Other midterm races of note in Texas include Texas's 31st congressional district, Central Texas/Round Rock (where Republican incumbent John Carter has only raised $1.6 million in comparison to Democratic candidate MJ Hegar’s $4 million), the 32nd congressional district, suburban Dallas (where Republican incumbent Pete Sessions has raised $4.4 million against Democratic candidate Colin Allred’s $4.9 million), and the 7th congressional district, Houston (Republican incumbent John Culberson has raised $2.9 million against Democratic candidate Lizzie Fletcher’s $5.3 million), according to live polling data from the New York Times which has called these four races competitive.
