Nearly 2 Dozen Injured As Tornado Hits Central Texas

A tornado touched down and traveled seven miles near Salado in Bell County, injuring 23 people.

SALADO, TX — Nearly two dozen people were injured after a tornado swept through a swath of central Texas on Tuesday evening.

The tornado was spotted around 5:37 p.m., originating in northern Williamson County near Florence and crossing into Bell County over FM 2843. The tornado traveled seven miles on the ground, Bell County Judge David Blackburn told reporters Tuesday night.

The tornado injured 23 people, 12 of whom are currently being treated in local hospitals, and one person is in critical condition. The other 11 people who were injured either didn't go to the hospital or were treated and released, Blackburn said.

Power lines, debris and felled trees are scattered across roadways and property throughout the county.

Tuesday's tornado is part of a busy 2022 tornado season that has already seen 12 people killed across the country.
