19 Train Cars Derail In Fort Worth, Close Road

Luckily, there were no full tankers in the train when nearly half of its cars derailed.

FORT WORTH, TX — A train derailment blocked North Main Street in Fort Worth early Wednesday morning, according to reports. Burlington Northern, the company that operated the train, said 19 cars derailed, the Star Telegram reported.

Fort Worth firefighters responded to the crash, which was around 1:30 a.m., CBS reported. The derailment was near Loop 820 and N. Main Street near Meacham Airport.

The train cars took some power lines, cutting power to 92 customers, including Meacham Airport, and creating a minor hazardous materials situation, the Star Telegram reported.

North Main Street is closed from Loop 820 to Terminal Road until late Wednesday evening, officials expect, according to CBS. Crews are working to remove the 41 train cars, 19 of which were derailed.

Those going to Meacham Airport will need to use the south entrance.

There is no known cause for the derailment and no injuries were reported.
