2 Granbury HS Students Drown On Senior Skip Day: Reports

The boys were with their peers in the reservoir at Wheeler Branch Park when they drowned, reports say.

GRANBURY, TX — Two Granbury High School students died at the Wheeler Branch Reservoir Monday, according to reports.

"Granbury High School is mourning the loss of two students who tragically passed away on Monday," school officials said on the school's Facebook page. "This was not school-related. GHS counselors and administrators as well as local ministers are available for students needing to discuss this during an open time at the GHS auditorium, which will be open though early evening tonight."

Julio Espinosa-Guerrero, 17, and Oscar Rios, 18, were not at school Monday. Dallas News reported they were skipping to go for a swim at Wheeler Branch Park when the tragedy struck.

A Texas Game Warden spokesperson said the two boys were flown to a hospital where they were pronounced dead, WFAA reported.

Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds said other kids reportedly tried to save the two boys, but were unable to, Dallas News reported.
