Today's riddle: How do billboards talk? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Hispanic Heritage Month workshop introduced participants to mola (arlingtonsentinel.org) — Arlington's George W. Hawkes Downtown Library recently hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month workshop where residents learned about mola, a vibrant textile art from the Guna people of Panama and Colombia. Makerspace instructor Tamera Miller and participants described how the hands-on session deepened cultural understanding, and the library plans more craft-based cultural programs, including potential Native American Heritage Month activities, to keep connecting Arlington neighbors through creativity.
2. UTARI's Dr. Xin Liu Named to Arlington's 40 Under 40 Class of 2026 (uta.edu) — A University of Texas at Arlington engineering professor and UTARI researcher, Dr. Xin Liu, has been named to Arlington's 40 Under 40 Class of 2026. The Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce honor spotlights young professionals shaping the city's future, and Liu credits his colleagues' support as he's recognized among emerging leaders contributing to the greater Arlington community.
3. Pilots and emergency crews mobilize in North Texas amid Hurricane Isaias evacuation (wfaa.com) — Ambulance crews based in Arlington are on standby to deploy toward the Florida Panhandle as Hurricane Isaias approaches, with about 100 vehicles and support systems staged in a local warehouse. While Navy aircraft shelter at Fort Worth's Joint Reserve Base, Global Medical Response's Arlington teams are preparing to join colleagues from other cities to support evacuations and emergency medical needs.
4. Bucky Irving and rookie QB Jalon Daniels help Bucs beat sloppy Cowboys 24-16 for 1st win of season (mininggazette.com) — Arlington football fans watched the Cowboys fall 24-16 at home as Tampa Bay's Bucky Irving gashed the defense for 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels managed a clean, efficient game for the Bucs, while Dak Prescott's late interceptions and Dallas miscues spoiled a fourth-quarter rally and dropped the Cowboys to 2-3.
5. The military veterans behind some of your favorite State Fair foods (dallasnews.com) — One of the State Fair of Texas' popular turkey leg stands is run by Army veteran Tino Sosa, who launched his military career through an ROTC scholarship at the University of Texas at Arlington. He and other veterans-turned-vendors say skills from service—leadership, organization, and perseverance—now shape the food operations and tight-knit community fairgoers enjoy each fall in Dallas.
