The City of Arlington is putting technology to work in a new way to make traveling through The American Dream City easier and safer.
Arlington is the first city in Texas to implement Wanco’s Connected Arrow Boards, which do more than signal to approaching drivers whether to move over to the left or right for lane closures. These electronic boards also have the ability to transmit messages directly to the Waze app, providing drivers who use the app advance notice of detours or possible delays in their commute.

The City of Arlington has participated in a data-sharing partnership with Waze since 2017. The Waze for Cities Program provides a look at real-time road activity, allowing Arlington to harness real-time driver insights to improve congestion and make better informed planning decisions. As part of the partnership, Arlington also provides construction, crash and road closure data to Waze to give drivers awareness of the most current road conditions.
“We already rely on Waze as a tool to help drivers navigate construction and avoid congestion as they travel through our city. These Connected Arrow Boards will help us get information to drivers who use the app even more efficiently,” interim City Traffic Engineer Daniel Burnham said. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Wanco and be the first city in the state to implement this evolving technology.”
Drivers can download Waze for free at www.waze.com/get for iOS and Android and see real-time traffic, find optimal routes, avoid road closures and more.
