Houston’s most eco-conscious race is back and ready to make another positive footprint! Join Houston Running Company (HRC) on Saturday, April 4, for the 18th annual green6.2 – an Earth Week celebration where participants can go the extra “green mile” for great causes. This event continues to grow each year, drawing thousands of participants – and will benefit three nonprofit organizations that serve the local community.

Taking place at CITYCENTRE, the event features a 10K and 5K at 7:30 a.m., and family-friendly 1K at 9:15 a.m.–along with a lively awards ceremony with medals for top finishers at 8:45 a.m.

What really sets green6.2 apart from other events is its commitment to sustainability – which includes digital race packets, reusable water stations, medal recycling, and even a shoe drive to keep old kicks out of landfills. Participants are encouraged to carpool, bike or even join virtually, and prove that every step (or stride) can make a sustainable difference in the lives of others.

It’s been thrilling to see this event evolve over the years, and how enthusiastic participants are about embracing sustainable practices,” said Randi Schooley, HRC co-founder. “It’s a fun, meaningful way for our community to come together, celebrate Earth Week, and impact organizations serving local community members – one step at a time.”

Proceeds from green6.2 will benefit Ainsley's Angels Southeast Texas – which promotes inclusion in endurance events for individuals with disabilities, The Asher House Animal Sanctuary, dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals in need and LifeGift Organ Donation, that supports the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

In line with its sustainable theme, event swag for participants is made entirely from recycled materials. Through its emphasis on going and being green - green6.2 provides the opportunity to “reduce, reuse, and race” into Earth Week, along with a festive atmosphere filled with food, music, and community spirit.
