📰 News we're reading
• 'Obsessed' Man Accused of Killing Ex-Girlfriend's Father, Seriously Injuring Her in Shooting (usmagazine.com) — Baytown residents should know that a 54-year-old man was killed and his 19-year-old daughter seriously wounded in a September 28 shooting at a local home, with a 22-year-old ex-boyfriend now in custody and facing murder and assault charges. Authorities describe the case as stemming from relationship violence and urge the community to recognize the warning signs of domestic abuse.
• San Jacinto College student Leilani Rodriguez missing (arcpublishing.com) — Police are urgently searching near Baytown's Fred Hartman Bridge for 18-year-old San Jacinto College student Leilani Rodriguez, whose phone last pinged on the bridge after she sent troubling texts and left campus on foot. Baytown-area residents are asked to watch for her and call campus Investigator Eric Reyes with any information that could help find her safely.
• IKEA selects Kodiak for driverless freight launch (autonomousvehicleinternational.com) — Baytown's IKEA distribution center will anchor a new driverless freight route later this year, as IKEA becomes the first company to use Kodiak's autonomous trucks without a safety driver. The service will run between Baytown and Frisco along I-45, potentially reshaping how goods move through the region and influencing future trucking and warehouse jobs in the Baytown area.
