10-Year-Old Cedar Park Boy Recovers After Being Bitten By Dog
Recent incident occurred after animal escapes its owner's property, biting child who was playing outside with a neighborhood friend.

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — A Cedar Park child continues to recover after he was attacked by a dog recently while playing outside with a friend, according to a news report.
The 10-year-old boy was playing catch football with a neighborhood friend in the early evening of Nov. 28 when he was bitten by a dog that had to be pulled off the child by passersby, KXAN reported. The dog, a boxer-terrier mix, had apparently escaped from its owner's property as she retrieved her mail before attacking the child, according to the report. The report doesn't specify the specific location where the incident occurred.
A police spokesperson told KXAN the dog had no prior history of violence, and directed its owner to quarantine the animal. Reportedly, the owner took the animal to the veterinarian the following morning, according to police.

Police explained they are only able to removed a dog from its owner in exceedingly rare situations when the animal is deemed a threat to the public at large, the news station reported. Animal control officials have to deem the animal as being such a threat to remove someone's pet or, otherwise, return the animal to the owner after a quarantine period, officials told the news station.
The family of the injured boy, however, believe the animal should be put down. The owner failed to respond to KXAN's requests for comment. The news station showed the extent of the boy's injuries as part of its report. If you click the link to their original story, be warned as the images are graphic.
