2 Charged In Cedar Park After Infant Found With Multiple Injuries

Lee Alan Woodard and Alexis Joan Basques, both 21, charged after 7-week-old is hospitalized with multiple injuries.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Police are investigating an incident that led to extensive injuries to an infant in Cedar Park, officials said on Sunday.

The incident occurred dates to July 6, when a 7-week-old infant was transported via ambulance to Dell Children’s Hospital where doctors reported injuries including multiple hemorrhages and bleeding in the brain, seizures, strokes, retinal hemorrhage in both eyes, and multiple bruising injuries in the chest, abdomen, hip and tongue, police said in an emailed press advisory.

The following day, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) contacted the Cedar Park Police Department in reference to this case. "Through our investigation, we believe statements made by the infant’s parents are inconsistent with the injuries observed on the child," police wrote.

As a result, police said Lee Alan Woodard, 21, has been charged with a count of Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury. In addition, Alexis Joan Basques, 21, is charged with Injury to a Child by Omission. Both were taken into custody Friday, July 26, officials noted.

"The child has recently been released from the hospital but still has follow-up appointments," Cedar Park Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Inns told Patch in an email. Inns on Sunday declined to provide the location where the incident took place, referring Patch to the Williamson County court to secure an affidavit.

Investigators are now working with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office and DFPS as they continue to investigate the incident. No further details were released condition. According to Williamson County Jail records, Woodard was behind bars under $150,000 bail. For her part, Basques was booked into jail with a $50,000 bail.
