Cedar Park, County Officials Break Ground On Fire Station Number 5
The $4.43 million project was approved by voters in a bond referendum to serve fast-growing northeast and north-central parts of town.

CEDAR PARK, TX — City and county officials hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new fire station on Monday.
The 4 p.m. ceremony at 1501 Cottonwood Creek Trail marked the first step in building Fire Station No. 5, approved by voters in a bond referendum to serve the fast-growing northeast and north-central part of the city. The structure will house the Cedar Park Fire Department and the Williamson County EMS, officials said.
City and county officials were joined by chiefs, directors, firefighters and paramedics from the Cedar Park Fire Department and Williamson County EMS.

“This is the latest demonstration of our commitment to public service,” City of Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell said. “It’s important that we provide our fire department with the best training, equipment and facilities.”
Fire Station Number 5 is a 2016 Capital Improvements Project (CIP) funded primarily by 2015 Bond Election funds, and includes additional funding from short-term tax notes and Williamson County. The Fire Station is roughly 13,250 square feet and includes space for one EMS crew, an EMS commander and future space for a second EMS crew, officials said.

The site is located near the intersection of Cottonwood Creek Trail and La Jaita Drive on land donated by Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in 2014. Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long said, “we appreciate the collaboration on this project between the county, city and the hospital, and we appreciate and thank our citizens for their continued support of public safety.”
City of Cedar Park Fire Chief James Mallinger added: “Fire Station Number 5 will provide faster fire and EMS response to the fastest growing area of Cedar Park.” Noted Mike Knipstein, Williamson County’s EMS Director: “Williamson County EMS is excited to continue our relationship with Cedar Park Fire Department by providing timely and excellent care from this new station.”
The City has hired Teal Construction, Inc. as the General Contractor for the project. The construction
contract totals just under $4.43 million, which is more than $570,000 below the anticipated construction
budget for the project. Teal Construction, Inc. has been in business for 70 years providing general
contracting services for commercial construction projects and has constructed many fire stations across
the state of similar size, scope and complexity, officials said.
Construction began in September 2017 and is scheduled to be completed by fall of 2018.
The design architect for the project is BRW Architects (Ray Holliday and Justin Dryer). The City’s Third
Party Project Representative is AGCM, Inc. (Stephen Karp). The City’s design team was led by Fire Chief
James Mallinger, Assistant Chief Adam Story, and Project Manager Randy Lueders.
