Cedar Park Couple Unable To Retrieve Ring After Jeweler's Murder

Gallerie Jewelers of North Austin is closed until further notice following the killing of its owner, leaving needed jewel in limbo.

CEDAR PARK, TX — A Cedar Park couple have been inadvertently ensnared in a real-life murder drama, unable to secure an engagement ring from a store now closed after the owner's killing.

Anthony Zanin told KXAN he and his fiancée had hoped to retrieve their engagement ring for a photo shoot this weekend, only to find the store where they bought it, Gallerie Jewelers in Austin, is closed pending a police investigation.

Nick Shaughnessy, the son of store owner Ted Shaughnessy, has been arrested for the murder of his father. Zanin said he met with the younger Shaughnessy on Saturday, and was told the ring he took for a replacement diamond would be ready for pickup the following week. But after the son's arrest, the store is closed as police investigate the crime.

So far, efforts to retrieve the ring have been unsuccessful despite messages left at the store, at the store's Facebook page and with the Travis County Sheriff's Office, the news station reported.

Now, the couple worry that not only are they likely to get the ring back for this weekend's photo shoot, but might not have it in time for their October wedding. The news station has gotten into the act, currently in the process of determining what clients with jewelry at the store should do to retrieve their possessions.
