CEDAR PARK, TX — The City of Cedar Park is planning some alternative community events to celebrate Independence Day this year, in consideration of conditions created by the coronavirus.
"The annual July 4th events take many months of planning and advance commitments with vendors," city officials wrote on the municipal website. "Given the uncertainty during the past few months, the City of Cedar Park is doing its best to create something unique, special and memorable for the community – understanding that it will be different this year."

As far as fireworks, officials said: "The City of Cedar Park is still evaluating how we can have a fireworks display that is safe for our community members and staff. The city will announce its plans regarding fireworks early in the week of June 29."

Decorate your home and lawn
The City of Cedar Park encourages everyone across Cedar Park to join in the Independence Day spirit by decorating homes and front lawns in a patriotic theme. "Be sure to post your decked-out porch portraits on social media with #CP4th so we can share them!" officials wrote.
Pop-up Parades
The city has planned a series of neighborhood “pop-up parades” across the city this year.
- A few public safety and Public Works vehicles caravanning through Cedar Park’s largest subdivisions.
- The vehicles will be decorated in their “Fourth of July finest.”
- Everyone is encouraged to also wear their most patriotic apparel and come find a spot along a route, stay with your family at a safe distance from others to line the streets with red-white-and blue, waving flags and cheering as the procession passes.
- The neighborhoods and timelines were strategically chosen to keep firefighters within their respective fire districts.
