Cedar Park Police Department Under Scrutiny After Botched Greg Kelley Case

Following emergence of another suspect in sexual assault case rather than named suspect, some are calling for firing of chief, investigator.

CEDAR PARK, TX — The Cedar Park Police Department is under scrutiny following a botched 2014 case for which a new suspect has recently emerged.

Greg Kelley was convicted of super-aggravated sexual assault of a child three years ago in a case centered on a daycare. But Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick released a statement this past May revealing another suspect in the case named Jonathan McCarty.

The lead investigator in the case acknowledged in a hearing that he never visited the daycare where the assault took place, didn't take photographs, neglected to question witnesses or even collect evidence in the case, according to reports. The officer also reportedly said he never considered any other suspects in the case.
