CEDAR PARK, TX — Police have identified the man who succumbed to a "suspicious death" on Sunday after his body was found behind a gas station.

The deceased man, a known transient in the area, was identified on Monday as Joseph Wayne Heffron, 50, who went by the nickname "Sarge," police said in a press advisory. An autopsy report was conducted Monday morning, with a preliminary finding the man succumbed to a medical condition.

Police initially categorized the death as a homicide before amending the assessment to a "suspicious death." Hefron's body was found just before 1:45 p.m. on Sunday in a grassy area behind the Texaco gas station at 2509 South Bell Blvd.
