CEDAR PARK, TX — Cedar Park City Council members will consider augmenting its public art collection with a statue honoring law enforcement officials at their first meeting of the year on Thursday.

Cedar Park City Council members, as part of their Thursday, Jan. 11, meeting agenda, are scheduled to discuss commissioning artist Daniel Borup to create the monument with payment not to exceed $72,000. The proposed sculpture aims to honor public safety workers while serving as a makeshift memorial to those killed in the line of duty.

The statue would be installed at the Cedar Park Police Department. In addition to the monument, three plaques will memorialize two police officers and a firefighter killed in the line of duty: Officers William Laws and Leonard Reed and volunteer firefighter Wayne Buford.
