Dallas Federal Building Gunman Had Leander Ties

LEANDER, TX — The man killed by Dallas police after opening fire outside a Dallas courthouse on Monday has Leander ties, according to reports.

Leander ISD officials confirmed Brian Isaac Clyde, 22, graduated from Vandegrift High School in 2015 after first enrolling there in 2012, according to a report by Spectrum News. He also attended Leander High School for coursework and activities in connection to his participation in the JROTC program, according to the report.

Clyde reportedly had just graduated from Del Mar Community College in Corpus Christi, earning an associates's degree of applied science in nondestructive testing technology, the news station reported. College officials said the man had been recognized as an outstanding student during an April ceremony.

FBI officials have confirmed Clyde was discharged from the U.S. Army in 2017 after having served as an infantryman from August 2015 to February 2017. He achieved the rank of private first class, according to the report.

Police warned of an "active shooter" situation around 9 a.m. on Monday after the gunman exchanged fire with federal officers. No officers or bystanders were hurt, police said.
