Hero Way In Leander To Close During Thursday Morning Rush Hour For Police Crash Investigation

The artery will be closed to traffic from County Road 270 and Ronald W. Reagan for up to four hours beginning at 5:30 a.m.

LEANDER, TX — Hero Way will be closed in both directions during the morning rush hour Thursday while police complete their investigation into a crash on the roadway Saturday that killed two people.

The road will be closed between County Road 270 and Ronald W. Reagan Boulevard beginning at 5:30 a.m. as the collision reconstruction team investigates what may have caused the fatal wreck on Feb. 25. Police ask residents to avoid the area during this time, as no thru traffic will be allowed and completely closed at the collision site.

The road closure is expected to take three to four hours, police said. The public will be updated as soon as the artery is reopened, officials added.

Two people, a man and a woman, were found dead inside a Kia, their deaths caused when the car slammed into a tree along the 2900 block of Hero Way at around 3:35 a.m. The car was traveling west along the two-lane rural road when it left the roadway, driving into a ditch, running across both lanes of traffic and then striking the tree on the south side of the roadway.

"We do not know when the collision occurred at this point, but it was not too long before the first call based on evidence at the scene," police wrote at the time. Police have yet to identify the victims.
