LEANDER

In Leander, three people are running for mayor and seven for city council seats that are up for grabs. The trio of mayoral hopefuls is composed of Adam Benefield, a chief executive officer; Troy Hill, a current city council member who works in sales; and Vic Villarreal, a former city council member who now works as a professor.

Leander Mayor Chris Fielder has served in that post since 2012, but has chosen not to seek re-election. In a previous statement, the mayor said he hopes to spend more time with his family as the main reason for not seeking re-election.

Two are running for city council seats in Place 2: Incumbent Michelle Stephenson and police officer Philip Contatore. In Place 4, current council member Ron Abruzzese hopes to retain his seat that will be contested by Christine Sederquist, a library associate.

A crowded field of three candidates will be vying for the Place 6 council seat. The contenders are: Marci Cannon, who works as a real estate agent; Marshall Hines, a visual designer for mobile apps; and Thomas Levisay, an insurance agent/financial professional. The Place 6 council seat is currently held by Hill, who is running for mayor.

Special elections also will take place on May 5 for a number of propositions related to a range of issues, from annexation to selecting an auditor (more details below).
