Leander-Area Man Charged With Murder After Running Over Cousin

Jesse Vickers, 34, followed Frederick John Goodrow, 28, outside a home early Saturday and allegedly ran him over twice with grandma's car.

LEANDER, TEXAS — A Leander man is charged with murder after allegedly running over his cousin with a car early Saturday, according to reports.

Williamson County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the 4300 block of Red Oak Lane at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday amid reports of a disturbance,the Austin American-Statesman and other media outlet reported.

The two men, who family members described as cousins, were involved in a dispute at the time of the incident, according to reports.

After the argument, Frederick John Goodrow, 28, left the home with another person, only to be followed by Jesse Wyatt Vickers, 34, who got into his grandmother's car and striking the victim, according to the report.

Vickers is said to have driven down Red Oak before turning around and striking the victim a second time, according to the sheriff. A third attempt to run Goodrow over was aborted after a bystander shielded his body to protect him, prompting Vickers to drive off, according to the account.

Mortally wounded, Goodrow later succumbed to his injuries. Vickers was placed under arrest, and reportedly confessed to the crime. He is charged with murder and is at the Williamson County Jail with bail set at $300,000.

In an email to Patch on Wednesday, Oct. 17, a Leander city officials noted the incident occurred in an unincorporated area of Williamson County, not in the city of Leander. "Therefore, this area falls under the jurisdiction of Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, which is why they were the responding law enforcement agency," the official wrote in seeking a clarification.
