Leander Teen's Body Pulled From Lake Georgetown On Fourth Of July

Nathan Ellis, 16, was swimming with two others when he went under and never resurfaced, later pulled from more than 30 feet of water.

LEANDER, TX — The body recovered from Lake Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon has been identified as that of a Leander teenager, police said.

Emergency first responders were called to the scene at around 12:30 p.m. after three swimmers were trying to swim across a narrow portion of the lake near the Cedar Parks boat ramp, the Georgetown Police Department said in a news release. One of the swimmers, later identified as Nathan Ellis, 16, of Leander, reportedly struggled in the water before submerging.

The two other swimmers later told police they tried to help Ellis but ultimately were unsuccessful. About two hours later, dive team members found his body submerged in more than 30 feet of water, police said.
