Leander Woman Nearly Loses Hand In Dog Attack

Loose canine described simply as a 'bulldog' attacked the woman violently over the weekend, sending her to the intensive care unit.

LEANDER, TX — A Leander woman was hospitalized after a neighborhood dog attacked her over the weekend and nearly severed her hand in the process, according to reports.

The unidentified woman was taken the intensive care unit of an area hospital following the Friday attack by a neighbor's dog on Lauren Loop, as KXAN reported. Details into the severity of the woman's injuries emerged this week after friends of the victim shared her story with the news station.

One detail learned in the wake of the attack: The canine described simply as a "bulldog" in the report nearly had her hand cut off, requiring the woman to undergo several surgeries, according to the report. The city's animal services unit is now investigating following the woman's reporting she was charged by the unattended dog, according to the report.

The victim told police the dog bit and pulled at her arm as she approached her neighbor's house, pulling her off a porch and onto the grass before she was able to flee, KXAN reported. She was rushed to St. David's Hospital in Round Rock for treatment of her injuries before being transferred to Dell Seton Medical Center for additional treatment, the news station reported.

The woman is reported to be in serious but stable condition, officials said. The dog, meanwhile, was quarantined at Hill Country Humane Society as officials mull whether to euthanize the beast. As for the dog's owner, she faces a charge of violating a city ordinance prohibiting dogs to roam the streets unleashed and unattended, according to the report.
