Man Sues Leander Police Department Over Dismissed Charge
Charge of driving toward officer's vehicle was dismissed, and lawyer says it was retribution by cop for an unrelated matter the day before.
LEANDER, TX — A man alleging he lost his job after being falsely accused of driving toward an officer's parked car has sued the Leander Police Department, according to a published report.
William Thomas Nuckols III also is suing the officer in question, Carlos Gonzalez, with sought damages between $200,000 to $1 million, according to a report by the Austin American-Statesman.
According to the report, Nuckols' attorney said no evidence exists to corroborate the officer's claims — including dashcam video — which led to the charge against Nuckols being dismised. The August 2018 charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant was instead retaliation for a crude hand gesture the driver made as he passed the officer the previous day, according to the account.
