Williamson County Jail Correctional Officer Busted After Cocaine Found In Car (Updated)

Richard Acuña​ Jr. 47, who had only been working for the county since January, now finds himself out of a job and facing felony charge.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — A correctional officer at the Williamson County Jail was arrested for drug possession, officials confirmed late Tuesday.

Richard Acuña Jr., 47, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after drugs were found in his vehicle, the sheriff's office said in an email. The drug possession charge he was a assessed is a 2nd degree felony, officials noted.

By Wednesday, sheriff's officials provided more details. The search of the officer's vehicle was conducted at around 4:30 p.m. in the jail parking lot at 306 W. 4th St. During the search, a drug-sniffing canine gave indications of a positive alert, and that's when cocaine was found inside Acuña's vehicle.

A sheriff's office spokesperson told Patch Acuña had been working for the county since January 2017.

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody made reference to the arrest on his Twitter account, writing: "One bad apple doesn't reflect all of us @ WilCo. If you can't serve with honor you need not apply. We hold you accountable."
