• Scrap Happy Quilters to Meet Oct. 3 (scttx.com) — A local quilting group is inviting Center-area residents to its next gathering on Saturday, October 3 at 9 a.m. at the James/Antioch Community House on FM 2608. Members will be sewing donation quilts for nursing homes and Quilts of Valor for veterans, and newcomers are encouraged to bring their machines, supplies, and any fabric or monetary donations.
   

• SC Commissioners Adopt Budget, Tax Rate for 2027 (scttx.com) — Shelby County commissioners have approved a 2026-27 budget and higher property tax rate that will raise more revenue, affecting Center homeowners and businesses. They also accepted a bid for asbestos removal at the former Center Elementary School and discussed funding for law enforcement technology partly supported by the city of Center.
